Ever struggle to think of a creative idea? Go brew yourself a cuppa and think again. A new study suggests the secret to a creative mind can be found in tea.
Volunteers who drank tea immediately performed better than those who drank water in creative and cognitive exams. Initially, researchers thought it was the high dosage of caffeine and theanine, but those effects don't kick in instantly, yet performance was rapidly boosted. The effect is likely psychological.
Tea improves mood and lets positivity flow, which in turn increases your brain's cognitive ability. Think of the difference between going to work on a blue Monday versus a sunny Friday morning.

Drinking It Wrong? The 9-Step Authentic Brew
If you're thinking, "I drink tea all the time and see no improvement," perhaps you're drinking it wrong. The best way to drink tea for maximum benefit is:
Use loose-leaf tea
Go sugar free
Use soft or filtered water
Use boiling water
Let it brew for eight minutes
Pour it immediately into a pre-warmed teapot
Pour tea into the cup before milk
Pour the cream off the milk before use
Drink it in small quantities
The more effort you put into making tea an authentic experience, the more satisfied you are with taste, and therefore your mood improves. Sugar and creamy milk distract from the pure taste of tea leaves and can make the experience feel less authentic and even lower your mood.

Tea & Cognition Study Insight
The higher caffeine and theanine content in a strong brew is set to boost creativity for longer thanks to improved focus. Drinking in small quantities means less bloating and keeps tea warmer for longer, which is key.
Perhaps we should all try this method at work. We drink a lot of tea at Mediareach, which could have unknowingly contributed to our creative thinking. We will be sure to try this out, and think of a cool noodle shop name while we're at it.
